HOPE Cape Town E-learning Course
HOPE Cape Town trains and places a network of HOPE Health Care Workers (HCWs) in selected township clinics to facilitate the clinic staff, whether it be helping in the TB room, HIV counseling, assisting with treatment regimen adherence and patient care, the HCW is expected to have sound basic medical knowledge. An e-learning course has been developed which will train the HCWs in an efficient way with novel skills development.
Currently the e-Learning course consists of two modules
1. General anatomy of the body
2. The immune system, the impact of HIV on the immune system, ARV information & HIV transmission modes.
At the end of the e-learning course, the HCW will:
1. Have an increased knowledge about the various systems of the body
2. Understand how HIV attacks the immune system and why an HIV positive person becomes ill.
By increasing their knowledge of basic anatomy, the immune system and HIV specifically, the HCWs will be better equipped to understand the disease processes when handling and counselling patients from the clinic.
Funding for the e-learning Course:
The e-learning project was started with funding from the Bavarian State Chancellery and further pledged by the Bulli Bildungsfond from Be Your Own Hero e.V. The e-learning initiatives between the Bavarian State Chancellery and HOPE Cape Town were facilitated by InWent. The Medical Mission Institute (MMI) facilitated the development of the e-learning programme.
